“The Secret Agent” makes history at the 2026 Golden Globes

Once again, Brazilian audiovisual talents shone at the Golden Globe Awards. On Sunday, January 11, the film ‘The Secret Agent’, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, won the award in the categories of Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor in a Drama Film, for Wagner Moura.

Produced by CinemaScópio and distributed by Vitrine Filmes in Brazil, Neon in the US, and Mubi in Europe, among others, the film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d’Or, winning the awards for Best Actor, for Wagner Moura, and Best Director, for Kleber Mendonça Filho. It also received the FIPRESCI prize from the official competition, the Prix des Cinémas d’Art et Essai, awarded by the French Association of Art Cinemas (AFCAE), the Best Foreign Language Film award and Best Actor award for Wagner Moura at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Best International Film and Best Actor awards for Wagner Moura at the New York Film Critics Circle, an award linked to the New York Film Festival, among more than 50 awards at festivals and events around the world.

At the 2026 Golden Globes, the film was nominated in three categories – in addition to the two awards, it was also nominated for Best Drama Feature Film, one of the main categories of the night, becoming the first Brazilian film in history to receive this nomination.
