Brazilian Content closes the 20th anniversary of its partnership with Sunny Side of the Doc

The 35th edition of Sunny Side of the Doc, which takes place annually in the city of La Rochelle, on the west coast of France, marked the 35th anniversary of the event, the 20th anniversary of Brazilian Content and also the 20th anniversary of the partnership between the two – Sunny Side, or SSD, was the first international market to appear on the calendar of actions of the Brazilian independent audiovisual export promotion program shortly after its creation in 2004.
The delegation composed of Brazilian Content, carried out by Brasil Audiovisual Independente (BRAVI) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), brought to the non-fiction event a total of 11 companies from the five regions of Brazil, represented by 22 professionals with factual projects (documentaries and docudramas) and non-scripted (formats and reality shows). The Brazilian delegation’s stand served as a space for meetings and promotion of the BrC brand, consolidating the program’s return to the event (the last time being 2019).
To top off these events, this year’s Sunny Side of the Doc was the stage for another milestone in the history of Brazilian non-fiction audiovisual production: the launch of the LatAm Content Market, a market event for factual and non-scripted genres that will be held in Rio de Janeiro in March 2025. Held by Grifa Filmes and Stay and Fly Docs, with pitch coordination by Sunny Side of the Doc, the event is supported by Visit Rio and Embratur.
Founded in 1990, Sunny Side of the Doc has become the leading international market event for the audiovisual industry for non-fiction works. The event is a key meeting point for producers, distributors and sales agents with co-production projects for serial works looking for partners and/or financing; finished productions looking for sales agents and/or channels with linear or non-linear exhibition windows; and digital and immersive experiences that break down barriers in language innovation and/or the use of technology to convey stories grouped around themes such as global issues, nature and conservation, science, history, arts & culture and impact campaigns. This year’s edition of Sunny Side of the Doc had 2,100 participants representing 68 territories around the world, more than 1,000 companies, 90 exhibitors and 250 international decision-makers, including major broadcasters, streamers, foundations, distributors, funders and museums from around the world. The event welcomed 40 delegations from countries such as Australia, Spain, Canada and a large number of participants from China, as well as, of course, Brazil. With the main theme “Mapping the Future” in a challenging global context for the sector, the market reaffirmed its role in supporting international co-productions and linear and non-linear serial projects, in addition to offering new distribution opportunities for immersive and XR content.
The Brazilian Content team present at the event was formed by Lucas Soussumi, executive manager, and Ana Key Kapaz, international coordinator. The delegation was composed of the companies Arapy Produções, Cine Group, Donna Features, Duo2, Frame 22, Grifa Filmes, Moonshot Pictures, Nós Filmes, Ocean Films, Tocantins Filmes and Tropical Entretenimento.
